Roy Evans RIP
Beaufort Male Choir mourns the passing of Roy Evans
Everyone connected with Beaufort Male Choir has been greatly saddened by the death of Roy Evans who was a most popular and dedicated member of the choir for many years.
Roy joined the choir in August 1985 following in the footsteps of his greatly respected brother- in- law John Harding who joined the choir in 1978 and passed away in 1996. Both Roy and John were undoubtedly influenced by their father in law Will Plummer who served Beaufort Male Choir for many years in the halcyon days after the choir reformed in 1947.
Roy’s contribution to what many people recall as a ‘golden’ period in the life of the choir was considerable as was his contribution to Ebbw Vale rugby .Roy Evans was one of Ebbw Vale's greatest players, a scrum-half of great talent who with his partner Wilf Hunt, two Brynmawr boys, were reserves for Wales. Roy captained an Ebbw Vale side that won the Welsh Championship in 1959/60 and played in the Ebbw Vale/Abertillery side that were unlucky to lose to South Africa in 1960/61. During his National Service in the Royal Signals he played for The Army in the Inter-Services Tournament games at Twickenham
